Hello Greenfield!
Welcome to another beautiful fall in the neighbourhood. There so many exciting things to tell you about. First of all, I’d like to introduce myself. The Board said a sad farewell to Sam Goertz this past May, who has led our community board for the last two years. Sam was an amazing, passionate contributor to our community and he will deeply missed for his vision and commitment to our community. My name is Amanda Barros and I will be taking the role of interim president until our AGM on January 31st. I am a long time Greenfield resident – my family moved to the community when I was in kindergarten, I attended Greenfield Elementary School and my family and I moved back to the neighbourhood about five years ago to be closer to family. I have been on the Board for the past two years and I feel privileged to step up into the presidency. Enough of that! I am thrilled to announce that Greenfield Community has received a grant from the Alberta Foundation from the Arts to create a Mural Mosaic celebrating our 50 years as a community. This is an opportunity for us to come together and create a wall of art that celebrates where we have been as a community and where we are going over the next 50 years. We will be hosting a community painting session on November 17th at the Community Hall – come on down, show off your artistic skills and paint a piece of our history. And then stay tuned for our grand unveiling on New Years Eve where we show off our finished masterpiece. Also this fall, we are hosting our third annual Craft Fair at the Community Hall on December 1st and 2nd. Come and down and support our artistic community members. And as always, Greenfield will host the most amazing New Years Eve fireworks – stop by the Hall for some hot chocolate, lace up your skates, see our Mural unveiled and cuddle close to your neighbours for fireworks at 9pm. Thank you to everyone who showed up to our September Community League Day. Despite some last minute changes to the agenda (no one wants to be on a Bouncy castle in minus three weather!), it was a wonderful warm day to be in the Hall together as a community. And thank you so much to everyone who showed up on October 25th for our first ever Community League Wine Tasting Fundraiser. Nothing says civilized fundraising while sipping on prosecco. Stay tuned for a spring wine tasting in support of the Soccer program and the other fine work our community does. As always, don’t forget to purchase your Community League Membership for 2018/19. Your membership gives you a vote at our AGM and other great benefits. Memberships are $30 for individuals, $15 for seniors, $25 for senior couples and $50 for families. Memberships can be purchased online or at our AGM in January. I can be reached at [email protected] and look forward to seeing everyone on the playground! Regards, Amanda Barros
